THE SHOW/CAREER

Joann from Omaha, NE: Do you wonder what your life would be like if all of this TV fame didn't happen?
RACHAEL: I'd still be working in food markets or restaurants as I did happily for many years.

Debra from Pocatello, ID: Did you go to culinary school or did you teach yourself the basics? I would like to open my own restaurant but don’t know where to start.
RACHAEL: I am not a chef, I am a cook. I grew up working in restaurants, I did not go to culinary school. If you want to own a restaurant one day, then go work in some and learn about the business.

Sandy from Arizona City, AZ: I was just curious, do you narrate as you cook at home? It occurred to me that with all of your shows and talking your audience through cooking, are you able to turn it off when you cook at home for your self and your family or do you find yourself talking through recipes as you cook?
RACHAEL: No, I am very quiet when I am home. John and I often cook together. We talk when we eat; we try not to talk when our mouths are full. We want to be able to hear the music or Law and Order in the background.

Rebekah from Pinson, AL: After cooking on your shows, do you always eat the meal you've prepared?
RACHAEL: I really don't eat it at the show, I pick! I wait to eat when I go home with my husband.

Deb from Pryor, OK: My husband (John) and I love your show, I tried your ooey gooey bread, it's awesome. My question to you is: What part of your career do you like the most?
RACHAEL: Working on my Yum-o! organization, which is getting people excited about the healthy relationships they can cultivate with food sharing it with their family. Also getting people in the kitchen and putting an end to childhood hunger.

Niurka from Bronx, NY: If you could do a different job for a day what would it be?
RACHAEL: I think I would be a rancher or a farmer in South America. Somewhere where I would take care of animals and cook and where it’s really quiet. I’d want to have a lot of llamas too.

Jill from NY, NY: Hi Rachael, are there any celebrities you haven’t had on your show yet that you’re dying to meet?
RACHAEL: Everybody that has been on our show, celeb or not, has been so interesting. We are not choosy, everyone is welcome; I just look forward to going to work!

Hannah from Westerville, OH: I'm a senior in high school and I don't know what I want to do in life. All I know is something with food. How did you know what you wanted to do in life?
RACHAEL: I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life at that age either. I was a hard worker. I let life show me its own way. I followed opportunities as they arose. If you know you like to work in food, try a bunch of jobs in food like in restaurants and markets. Life is long; you're only 18.

Janet from Paso Robles, CA: How much rehearsal do you do before each show?
RACHAEL: Little to none -- can't ya tell?

Shirl from Lexington, KY: Rachael, who cleans the dishes on your show? Do you make the interns or production assistants do it?
RACHAEL: As you can imagine there are tons of dishes around here cause we make tons of food! Anyone hanging around the food table gets dibs at the leftovers from the meals we cook -- including the interns and PAs. Our kitchens (backstage and on the set) operate a lot like a restaurant. Everyone’s got their own job to do, including George, our dish washer extraordinaire!

Kim from Pompano Beach, FL: How did you come up with the phrase "yum-o"?
RACHAEL: It just came out of my mouth. It’s a combination of yummy and oh my gosh! And it's what I named my charity organization.
