Dave from Nashville, TN: Do you have a favorite pizza place in New York?
RACHAEL: A few! Lombardi's, Una Pizza Napolitana, Gabby's (they won best pizza in NY on our show). As for John, he likes a slice from Joe's (on Bleeker and 6th Avenue).
Todd from Southington, CT: With all the traveling you do, do you ever wake up in a hotel and forget what state/city you’re in?
RACHAEL: Often!
Debbie from Brownwood, TX My husband and our best friends of 30 years are planning our first trip to Italy next September. I have heard you talk about how wonderful it is and we would love to visit some of your favorite places.
RACHAEL: Well, you already know how much I love Italy! It's impossible to tell you everything I love about it, but here are a few of my favorite restaurants: Boccon Divino, Ristorante il Pozzo, Il Latini, Trattoria Garga, and Spirito DiVino. Buon appetito!
Lisa from Woolwich Township, NJ: Dear Rachael, in one of your magazines you wrote about Montreal, Canada. My family and I are going there this summer. Is there anywhere you would recommend us seeing? My family travels to Canada a lot. My father is from Montreal so normally we do the family visits not the tourist stuff. I am taking my husband there for the 2nd time and would like him to truly experience Montreal and my background.
RACHAEL: My husband and I love Montreal. Our first stop is Brûlerie St. Denis for their amazing coffee. Then we usually grab a hot bagel from the St-Viateur Bagel shop. Make sure you take a stroll through the Jean-Talon market in Montreal’s Little Italy. And hit up some boutiques like Revenge, which carries beautiful clothing by up-and-coming Canadian designers.
Old Montreal is my favorite area; make sure you walk around there. When you need a snack break, hit up Mondo Fritz where they make the best poutine (which is a traditional way of making French fries with gravy and cheese). Grab dinner at the Stash Café which has really fun décor, great food and live violin and piano music.
John from Seattle, WA: Hey Rachael, have you ever visited Sicily, if so, where? And do you still have any relatives there?
RACHAEL: Most of my mother’s family lives there; all of her first cousins live there. Yes, I have been many, many times. My favorite city in Sicily is Taormina.
Janet from Perrysburg, OH: I travel in a group of 4 women ... We take turns choosing where to go. This year we will be staying at a cottage on Lake George. Any advice on must-see, do or eat?
RACHAEL: I love Bolton Landing, a very sweet, little village a few miles from Lake George village. And eating at Ridge Terrace is beautiful. Montcalm is very family friendly, and at the Algonquin you eat right on the docks. Sutton's Marketplace has great food and clothes; I've been going there since I was 12. Rent a boat at Chic's Marina, and there's tons of mini-golf at Pirate's Cove -- it's the best!
Michelle from Long Beach, CA: Rachael, my name is Michelle and I am taking my daughter to New York for the first time for both of us, but just for the weekend. It's her 16th birthday and I would like to know what we should do in New York since we only have a short weekend. I'm so nervous because I hate to fly, and she is so excited. I thought it would be a good mother/daughter bonding experience.
RACHAEL: So I guess taking a helicopter ride around the city would be out? (ha ha!) You should definitely see a Broadway show, tour the village, Central Park and stop in SOHO for some cool shopping. You could even walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and have ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory for dessert. No matter if you're 6, 16, or 60, everybody likes ice cream!
Dawn from Scranton, PA: Rach, me and my husband are coming to New York for our anniversary and I was wondering if you could tell us about any fun things that we can do ...what are some good restaurants?
RACHAEL: Japonais or Parea if you want cool urban lounge bar – one’s a Greek lounge and ones Asian. Milos if you want to feel like you are being swept away on a Greek island; Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain great bistro fare if you are going to the theatre. For a quiet supper for two, go to Lupa. Take a romantic walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and end up at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory – that is a great and tasty reward. Check out the great foods and shops in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. And Central Park, Central
Park, Central Park – skip the carriage ride and take a long walk instead. The Meatpacking district is also great if you wanna be a part of a scene for shopping and food.
Kristen from Silver Springs, MD: Rach, I saw that you love the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. I’m coming to New York in July and have put that down as a place to go! My question is: What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream there?
RACHAEL: Vanilla. All of his ice cream is practically unsweetened and I think the vanilla let’s you taste the quality of his cream. Make sure you walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to get there. The views are fantastic!
