Hi guys,
I know that women all over the world are giving birth even as I write this, but Gretta happens to be the woman that "I" am in love with, and to me, she is an indomitable tower of strength. And after witnessing the birth of our son, I feel that women are the stronger breed. When women do this with us, for us, they create our legacy. And without them, we would have no future to speak of. So to all of you men out there - make sure you treat your woman well!
It's just been a week since Kai has been on the planet and already my world is completely different. I can't wait to go home and be with him and his mom. In fact, I don't even want to leave the house in the first place! There's nothing like that new baby smell! I'm even careful when I kiss him on his beautiful new skin - his birthday suit - because I don't want to hurt him with my scruff. And I have a feeling that I will be concerned about his feelings (with issues a lot bigger than my scruff hurting him!) for the rest of his life … all the while remembering that though children come through us, they don't belong to us. I'm honored that Kai Rei chose us! - Ricky

Hi everyone!
I am here with baby Kai Rei and it's 3:20 in the morning, and today is his one week birthday!
This week is like no other, I just can't believe how much life has changed already! Now I know what all of you moms have been through first hand and I feel as though I have been accepted into a new club of sorts, and I feel so honored!
My biggest surprise thus far is how much Kai has taught us in this short week. Like all first-time parents-to-be, Ricky and I prepared for Kai's arrival: We went to classes, read books and collected advice from friends, family, doctors, etc. But even with almost a year of due diligence, nothing could quite describe the actual feeling of his arrival - it was both amazing and overwhelming!
The first few days Ricky & I promised each other to stay true to all of the steps of "what to do" and "how to do it," but we found out pretty quickly that Kai had his own ideas on how this new union is going to go! We tried using all the ideas we'd read about, but after exhausting ourselves and feeling frustrated we suddenly got it - we are not going to get anywhere until we let Kai teach us!
So now, instead of reaching for a book or phoning the pediatrician in a panic, we look to Kai to lead the way! Sometimes we feel pretty dense because we don't always catch his drift right away, but eventually it becomes clear what he is driving for. And, we are really just getting to know one another - even with all of the instant connection and natural bonding that's there from moment one, we are all in a new relationship! (Click here to read Ricky's blog about his first week as a dad)
This first week has been a roller coaster for sure, and we are so excited to see what Kai teaches us in week 2! That said, we love and want all the advice and stories of our friends and family as we still rely on that as well! So if you have any week 2 stories and advice of your own to share, please, please do! Click here to share your advice on the message boards.
I can't wait to watch the show today with Kai and all of you! - Gretta
