Chinese Tamales!

benjaminstarr
Now THAT sounds like something I need to learn. You're on. I'll come visit and we'll trade tamale recipes. I'm hoping to be in LA before the New Year, but it's possible that it won't be until late January before I get there. But I PROMISE that I'll come see you when that happens.

You could give us all a head start and post a little about those Chinese tamales...you've got me all hungry now.

WOW! I wrote a response to Ben and don't know where it went! Ciberspace??? Sorry Ben! I'm going to re-write everything I wrote earlier....bummer!

CHINESE TAMALES!

That's what I call them. The Chinese name is: ZONGZI

Roasted sticky rice, roasted pork (or Chicken), shitaki mushrooms, shrimp, roasted peanuts....all wrapped up in bamboo leaves, steamed to perfection! YUMMY!!!!!

Legend has it, a brave and loyal officer (340-278BC)drowned in a river (he committed suicide). The villagers loved the officer so much that they made ZongZi to throw into the river so that the fish and creatures would eat the Zongzi instead of the officer's body. This tradition continues on today!

Not too many Chinese people in this generation will take the time to make ZongZi. You can buy them from a Chinese bakery/deli but it's NEVER as good as homemade!

We can make ZongZi together!!! I'm getting hungry too.... YUM!!!
