The first thing I thought of when I heard Rachael ask for do-overs was my wedding. In June my husband and I had a destination wedding in Tybee Island, Georgia. About 25 of our family and friends flew and drove from Ohio to celebrate our marriage with us. The ceremony on the beach at sunset went off without a hitch, but the reception was another story. After the wedding party finished getting pictures taken we walked to the pier where the reception was set up with a buffet, cake, a bar, and a DJ. Before we could get there we were stopped though; someone had found a suspicious object under the pier and the bomb squad had been called in. Nobody was allowed on the pier, even to get our food! The object wasn't a bomb, or even anything dangerous, but by the time the bomb squad cleared the area it was after the pier's closing time of 11 PM. In the meantime, we didn't know what to do, and we ended up gathering with our guests at a restaurant near the pier that graceously let us take over one of their decks. Fannie's Restaurant helped us out and gave us a slice of cake to feed to one another and played our music so we could have our first dance and our dances with our parents, but it just wasn't the reception we had dreamed of. My biggest disappointment as a new wife was that we were never announced as Mr. and Mrs. My other disappointment was for my family and friends: they got to eat and drink, but they had to pay for it themselves and the restaurant was hot and sticky while the pier would have been breezy and open. I feel so bad that our guests did not get the party they deserved for being so supportive of us and traveling so far to be with us, it breaks my heart. Rachael - I would love to have a do-over of my wedding reception!!
