Thank you, RR!

Thank you so much for doing a show about the a current news topic and a tragedy in this country...dog fighting and cruelty to animals. I can't wait to watch your show on Friday to find out how the dogs from Vick's home are rehabilitating. People who are cruel to animals are truly a danger to our society. If they are capable to abuse helpless animals, it is scary to think about what else they are capable of.Thank you for using your show and your fame to bring attention to a tough subject! I hope this show inspires viewers to volunteer, adopt, and love the animals in their life!

I also wanted to thank you for the pro-'pitbull' segment. We really need to stop blaming the animals and take it a step back to look at the PEOPLE who do this to them. I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (rescue) and she is the sweetest, most eager-to-please dog I've ever had. She is wonderful with my 3 month old son and 'her' 4 cats. I hope one day everyone will realize what great creatures they are. Thanks to everyone else who agrees!

Thank you so much for airing this story and showing our dogs in a positive light. In this day of Breed Specific Legislation the general public has been so misled by the media about these dogs. I have amstaffs and a staffy bull and can't imagine life without my dogs. With cities across the county banning them every day it's nice to see some positive publicity! I have to admit your show today brought tears to my eyes...because of what those dogs had been through, as well as tears of happiness for someone to finally stand up for these dogs! Thank you again!

I am a big dog lover. I've had several over my lifetime.
But I will NEVER trust a pitbull again!
They may be the sweetest dogs. They may be raised in a loving family. But they are too strong to be pets! Especially with other dogs or small children around!

My uncle has the cutest pitbull. She has always been affectionate. But when she gets excited and jumps up, watch out! Her head is like steel! She doesnt realize how powerful she is and frequently knocks down kids and head butts adults. I thought that was the extent of her problems until one day, we noticed her crouching down on the ground and staring at my 6 year old cousin. We warned my uncle to pull the dog away, but he insisted how sweet she was and that she would never hurt anyone. Next thing you know, the dog had my cousin by his arm. Stiches followed!!

This is the story that will NEVER allow me to trust a pitbull again...

I was walking with my 6'3" boyfriend and my 30lb adorable dog, when in front of us appeared this 60 year old woman and her pitbull. The dog was pulling her towards us, on a leash, very fast. The pitbulls tail was wagging. I thought to myself, seems friendly enough. My boyfriend was a little more hesistant, but he trusted my judgement. As the pit got closer, my dog stopped. He almost knew something was wrong. The pit continued to walk towards us. As soon as he got close, he GRABBED MY DOG NEAR HIS RIBS AND WOULD NOT LET GO!!!
IT TOOK 4 PEOPLE TO TRY AND GET THIS PITBULL OFF MY DOG! WE WERE ALL SCREAMING AND CRYING AS WE TRIED TO GET THE PITBULL OFF MY DOG! THEY ARE TOO STRONG TO HAVE AS PETS! WE TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET HIM OFF. I EVEN TRIED TO PRY HIS JAW OPEN... I HAVE NEVER FELT A FORCE MORE POWERFULL THAN THE JAWS OF A PITBULL.
They DO have a bad rap and I UNDERSTAND why. ITS NOT JUST THE MEDIA THAT PORTRAYS THEM THAT WAY... TOO MANY PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE HAD BAD EXPERIENCES WITH THEM.

Ive been told that they are really sweet with children, but are prone to attack other dogs. There is a dog in my neighborhood, a pitbull, that sees my dog on our walks and immediately crouches down in attack mode.
Unless you are a strong adult who is willing to put in the time to train your dog properly , you should NOT own a pitbull.

Im sorry, I know that some of them my be sweet and loving. But after my experiences, I will never trust them again.

boodog
Sorry to hear about your experiences, but it sounds like the first dog you talked about needs some obedience training. When any large dog jumps up and knocks you down, that can be prevented with proper training and it ultimately is in the hands of the person on the end of the leash. It's time we start holding people accountable. We had a bad incident near where I live a couple of years ago. In the end, the city ended up banning new pit bulls from entering the city and killing hundreds of innocent pets simply because of their breed. The real kicker is that the owner of the dogs got off completely free!

I just want to say thank you for doing the show I was crying the entire segment there is so much attention to the bad things that pit bulls do. If people would just do their research they would see that dogs are killed more by humans then any other bread of dog so who is in charge and accountable for their behavior we are. I have a pit bull and have spent all of his life defending who he is and is not to others. It is very upseting because it is like I am an outsider because I own this dog I just wish that people would understand that dogs are like people everyone is it's own personality. It is very sad that most of the people you come ac-crossed already have an opinion on the bread and pit bulls like any other dog are that dogs not humans people need to take responsibility for their actions. Yes these dogs are considered super dogs they are the strongest and fastest, and most loving, but with all that strength comes responsibility and we need to start taking it as owners. My dog has been awesome and yes I even kept him when I had my son. Many around me said oh you really need to get rid of him now that you are starting a family. He is my family. My son bothers him more than he bothers my son and my dog is not old he is 2 1/2. So never judge a book buy its cover one day it might be your dog bread that is against the world.

This segment is a very touchy subejct to me and cruelty to animals is so wrong. I have a pitbull that is 1 1/2 years old and he is the most loving & goofy dog. He was raised with a pug and a chow. He & the pug stay in the back yard together and play around and the pug is meaner than what he is. I believe it is the way you treat them. Its not the breed. The way dogs react is the way they are treated by their owners. The people that neglet and are cruel to animals should be treated the same way they treated their animals and it amazes me how most people get off freely or like Michael Vick that gets what 23 months in prison. Its rediculous.

I also wanted to thank you for doing the story about BAD RAP and the pit bulls. As an animal lover myself, I worried about the dogs when the dog fighting story came out. I am happy to know that there is an organization out there fighting to help these dogs and give them a chance to be real dogs and find them loving homes. It warms my heart what this organization is doing. Thank you for sharing this story with the world.

Thank you Rachael for having a show like today! I own 2 pitbulls and they are the most loving and affectionate animals ever... I have had dogs all my life and these guys are the BEST! =)
Its a shame that they have such a horrible reputation.. it truly saddens me.

I love your show and watch it every day on my lunch hour!

THANK YOU

After reading the comments about pitbulls, I have a thought on the subject of owning ANY powerful breed of dog; listen to Cesar Millan(Dog Whisperer) and make sure that your dog sees you and your family as the pack leader, not the other way around. I have never owned a pitbull, but have owned a doberman, and we have a bull mastiff, and a great dane in the family now, and they don't attack anyone or anything.

My husband & I have raised around about 13 to 14 Pit Bulls at a time & we never had any of our dogs bite or hurt anyone or another animal. We have a little dog that we've had for 12 yrs & he's been around our Pit Bulls. We've also had cats & they never did anything to them. And yes we have kids to our babies has both been around Pit Bulls every since they were born & our dogs would protect them before they would hurt them. It gets bad when people can point their figure at an animal that has to be taught like a child that just learning to walk. So just remember that it's people that teaches the dogs to love, like they teach us to love them back. They learn their actions from us. So don't blame them for our acts & our lack of understanding of this breed. BLAME THE PEOPLE THAT IS DOING THIS TO THEM .DON'T BLAME THE DOG FOR WHAT THEY ARE TRAINED TO DO. If we point our figure at them just remember we have four of our figures pointing back at us.

My friends and I all have Pit Bull Dogs. Most are rescues, including mine. She, Kali, has 2 cats and is wonderful with all 4 of our Godchildren - aged 9 mths to 20 years. We were lucky enough to adopt her at age 3 and other than being very shy around new people is loving and has now been with us for over 10 years. She even has her very own heated blanket and bed in the master bedroom. My Friend Laura has links on her web site for those of you in Texas opposed to Breed Specific Legislation - www.lucydog.com Give each dog a chance. Thanks RR & BadRap

I have owned Boxers all my life and one Pitt Bull. I am amazed at the different reaction people have to the Pitt and not the boxers. She is the submissive one and yet people think the boxers are just fine. I can tell you that a dominant female boxer is a force to be reconned with at times.Thank you for teaching people that no dog is dangerous unless the owner has abused, not trained, or socialized it properly. I am from Atlanta and I am so very proud of everyone for standing up to Mike Vick and the corrupt professional football players who think they can be sociopaths on and off the field and get away with it. I am elated his dogs are getting another chance. Thank you from a dog lover and rescuer for many years.

The last dog I adopted, and loved with all my heart, was a Rott/Newfoundland mix and at 150+ lbs was a scary sight to many people. He was exceptionally well trained by a friend in Houston and a very loving gentle dog. He *never* became aggressive, I don't think it was in his nature, but I imagine he would have been an unstoppable force.

A neighbor would scream and yell at us about 'Comet' whenever he saw him in the back yard (with a hurricane fence between). We tried to explain to him that the dog was well trained and gentle and offered to properly introduce them. The guy would just rant and rave about 'a dog like that' shouldn't live around people. ??? Long story short I walked outside one morning and my precious dog was dead. The neighbor was sitting on his back porch, laughed when he saw me and walked away.

The vet said the dog was definitely poisoned and the police said nothing could be done without some evidence. I moved away a few weeks later... the neighbor being a big part of the decision to move.

I've selfishly chosen not to adopt another dog; to me the wonderful, gentle creature that was Comet cannot simply be replaced.

Having said that.. I've recently fallen in love with a friend's young boxer and older Boston Terrier. They both have the same 'love me, love me' attitude and wonderful spirit that Comet had. If and when I am ready to adopt again I sincerely hope I can find a boxer or BT like the little guys next door.

We bring dogs (and other domestic animals) into our lives to live in our world. Their nature has been domesticated for our companionship and pleasure. How we choose to raise them, train them and treat them says a lot about us singularly and as a culture. We are ultimately totally responsible for them. Persons that harm animals need to be held to the highest and harshest judgment allowed.

[/sad rant]
