Pitbulls, yes, I called them pitbulls.

Hey Rachael,
Today's show had me in tears. People who fight dogs are truly lost. THEY are the ones with the problem. I believe that if someone wants to put money on a fight, and watch two creatures destroy eachother, they should go to a boxing match.. where the people doing it know what they are doing, and choose to do it. When I was born, my parents had three pitbulls, I was their baby. They all lived to be about 12, and never harmed another creature of any sort.. besides catching flies. After they passed, we were heartbroken because we couldn't imagine another dog would love us the way they did. Until we got our next pitbull a few years later, who found a tiny, newborn kitten on the side of the road while taking a walk and refused to leave him there. My mom and Lucy brought the baby home and they (yes, my mom and the pit) became that kitties new moms. I absolutely despise the ignorance people have towards this breed of dog. Chihuahua's are also well known for their bad attitudes, but for some reason it's acceptable because they're small. It doesn't make sense to me and I refuse to support anyone putting a bad name on a breed of dog. Our country has fought to stop racism in humans, but is starting something terribly similar in the puppy world. Thank you for showing so many people that with the proper care and rehabilitation, these dogs can and will overcome what they've been through and unconditionally love whoever they come across.

Realizing the plight of the dogs brought tears to my eyes also. The 20k donation for the saving of the dogs in the future was wonderful! This was the best show all week since I was home with the flu and not missing a segment! Today was a wonderful and generous giveaway for the lucky audience members also!

Rach, I WAS one of those who believed the bad rep that Pitbulls had. 15 years ago when I met Joe, my now husband, he had a pit named Twist. I was so scared of her, yet never met her, or would ever allow the chance to do so. So oneday when I went to visit Joe,as usual I'd wait for him to come out to the car. While looking the opposite direction of the house, he brought out twist, quickly put her in the car with me, and shut the door. I FREAKED!! I was absolutely still, Twist came over to me, sniffed me, and this is too funny, sat on my lap and passed gas. That made me realize she was comfortable with me. After yelling at Joe for what he had done, and a few kisses from Twist, I realized Twist was just any other dog!!!!! We now have 5 pits currenlty, and we used to un-officialy rescue them. Word got around how much we adored the breed, people would show up at our door with homeless/injured pits, or with stories of pits being abused and we would go dognap the pet and keep it with us until they were better and found a decent home. Of course we would notify the authorities so we wouldn't get introuble. But after all of these years, I still can't convince my family they are sweet perfect dogs, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER!!!!! I have to put mine up when they visit. We have just gotten ourselves a puppy, and since no one can resist a puppy, my family will come in with the puppy loose. I used this oppertunity to let them know to get used to the puppy, and familiar with him, because will we no longer put him up when family visits, that he will be as sweet as he is now as a puppy, when he gets to be older and larger.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy you did a piece about these perfect pets. One of the reasons we are loyal fans, my hubby and I, because you feel for these guys as pationalty as we do. Keep spreading the word!!!! Hopefully with in a few years the word will have made an impact, and ALL people will come to love them.

I am all for pitbulls. The show today had me in tears also I am sooo happy that there is an organization out there that helps them all you hear anymore is how bad they are but its not the dogs fault. Me and my boyfriends have a three year old pit and she is the most loving friendly dog ever she plays with my 4 month old son and gives him kisses galore. I am so appreciative to this organization and to Rachael Ray for bringing the subject to attention.

I was so deeply moved watching your segment about pits. Rach, all I can say is BRAVO!!!!! I am so happy that there is someone like you, in the public eye, who is speaking out`for and about these amazing dogs. At one time, they used to be loved by everyone. (Who remembers Petey from the Little Rascals?) We are very proud owners of an adorable pit, Nay Nay. We have seen first hand, how terrified people are of her. My family won't even visit unless we put her in another room. If you live in the city here, you must have insurance, and follow other "rules" if you own a pit. If the powers that be find out that you have not followed their rules, they can come into your home and take your dog. There is no rule for any other dog. How outrageous! Our new neighbors moved from the city to escape this prejudice. Our girl is the light of our lives. I make her breakfast EVERY morning, she sleeps with us, (or I should say we sleep with her because she clearly thinks it's her bed), and she is the smartest dog we've ever had. It breaks my heart to know that these wonderful creatures are being abused and used in these horrible fighting rings. We need to find a way, or create a movement to smoke out these rings and to let people know it IS NOT ok to mistreat any animal like this. I urge anyone who may know of someone involved in these rings, and ask that they report them. Maybe together we can put an end to this horrible thing someday. Again, thank you Rachel, for being the warm, caring, compasionate, pit loving person you are!

Let me say that I never miss an episode of RR but today...well, i couldnt miss it! I have been involved in Pit Bull rescue and advocacy for 2 years now. I have witnessed, first hand, the horrific things people will do to these dogs. It is absolutely shocking and appauling! I currently have 4 females and usually a foster or 2...i get calls daily from someone wanting to report abuse or neglect. I just want to say that BADRAP is an excellent organization and we at Casa Del Toro are honored to practice their ethics! Thanks to Rachael for FINALLY shedding some positive light on these wonderful dogs! There is nothing more satisfying than knowing these dogs are now happy, safe and healthy. The show brought tears to my eyes!! I will continue to educate people on this breed because the dogs do not deserve the negative publicity!!!!

I need to tell you guys something. Yes, I too had the belief that pit bulls were as dangerous as the Dobermans but then, my son, the darling, brought home a 3 month old puppy. We both fell in love with each other and my son told me it was a pit. I could not believe him. Brutus and I were very unseporitable(not sure how to spell it ) until one day, someone had killed him and his mate, who was pg at the time. I lost it and my hubby/ boyfriend went out to find two more. I now have the female who will be 4 this May and we are unseporitable, our male will be 3 in September and one of there sons is only 9 months old. My babies have never been in a fight and I won't let them. It's how you train them. If people who had dogs that fight, I would hate to see there own children then. I love my babies just like I love my own children or maybe a bit more cause my kids are somewhat jealous of them.

The first time I met a pit bull, I was scared. This was about 15 years ago, and I was out hiking when the dog showed up on the trail. My fear lasted about 2.6 seconds, because she walked over, sat on my feet and licked my hand.
Our whole family has pit bulls and/or pit bull mixes. Our dog is a pit/corgi mix, and the sweetest dog! She is very protective of our two young kids, and very patient with them. My son tries to use her as a slide, and my daughter tries to stand on her. She just sits there, with a long-suffering look on her face, until my husband or I intervene.
I have rarely met a pit with a bad disposition, and the ones I have usually reflect their owners' personalities.

Pitbulls kill. Poodles don't.

purslane
CountessSpatula,
Spreading your ignorance around on a message board is pretty sad. All dogs have the ability to harm another human or animal if provoked or inproperly trained. Your precious poodle could attack as well. If you don't agree, there's no need to show up and try to ruin everyone's parade. Apparently someone's mother didn't 'train' them well enough in the art of keeping one's mouth shut.

Your show had me in tears. The plight of the pitbull in ontario is sad. when the ban came in on them, these poor dogs were abonded and tourted by owners and put to death. This applies to that old saying. Theres no bad dogs only bad owners.
