Rach, I WAS one of those who believed the bad rep that Pitbulls had. 15 years ago when I met Joe, my now husband, he had a pit named Twist. I was so scared of her, yet never met her, or would ever allow the chance to do so. So oneday when I went to visit Joe,as usual I'd wait for him to come out to the car. While looking the opposite direction of the house, he brought out twist, quickly put her in the car with me, and shut the door. I FREAKED!! I was absolutely still, Twist came over to me, sniffed me, and this is too funny, sat on my lap and passed gas. That made me realize she was comfortable with me. After yelling at Joe for what he had done, and a few kisses from Twist, I realized Twist was just any other dog!!!!! We now have 5 pits currenlty, and we used to un-officialy rescue them. Word got around how much we adored the breed, people would show up at our door with homeless/injured pits, or with stories of pits being abused and we would go dognap the pet and keep it with us until they were better and found a decent home. Of course we would notify the authorities so we wouldn't get introuble. But after all of these years, I still can't convince my family they are sweet perfect dogs, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER!!!!! I have to put mine up when they visit. We have just gotten ourselves a puppy, and since no one can resist a puppy, my family will come in with the puppy loose. I used this oppertunity to let them know to get used to the puppy, and familiar with him, because will we no longer put him up when family visits, that he will be as sweet as he is now as a puppy, when he gets to be older and larger.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy you did a piece about these perfect pets. One of the reasons we are loyal fans, my hubby and I, because you feel for these guys as pationalty as we do. Keep spreading the word!!!! Hopefully with in a few years the word will have made an impact, and ALL people will come to love them.
