For years, I believed what the media told me. That Pit Bulls were aggressive dogs, ticking time bombs, etc. The funny thing was I had never met a Pit Bull. I was so quick to judge these dogs without having stared one in the eye. Then one day God presented me with a miracle in disquise.
After my husbands friend had been fatally injured in a motorcycle accident, he informed me that we would be adopting the pit bull that was left behind. I pleaded and protested against her all the way up until the minute I saw her for the first time. Coming at me was this two month old bundle of love. It was love at first sight.
Her name was Kemo. Though at the time I didn't realize what a wonderful gift I had been given, I was soon to find out. As a person living with the lung disease Cystic Fibrosis, this dog would become my lifeline. Prior to her coming into my life I would spend hours, even days in bed. At the time, I was unable to cope with the emotional toll that CF had taken on my body. After getting Kemo, my outlook on life changed. I was able to wake up everyday with a smiling face knowing that Kemo would be there to see me through and hug during the tough times.
I've now had Kemo for almost four years. Every day, I am thankful for the joy she has brought to my life. Looking at her each day, it's hard for me to imagine how people could take these dogs and put them through such abuse and horrible conditions.
Don't be a victim of stereotyping like I once was. Please don't believe the hysteria of fear that the media has created, I ask you to watch this video. Consider the facts. Can you believe that pit bull breeds score higher on temperament test than most of the most popular family dogs in America, including Golden Retrievers? Watch this video and see for yourself:
