Why does it take a life threatening experience to make one realize what is really important in life? What's really important in life is life itself. After going through a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction for breast cancer, I believe women should feel blessed to have their own breasts. Mine were taken from me because of this dreadful disease. I chose to have reconstruction to help build up my chest from a leveled field to help me feel halfway normal. I also decided not to have any nipple reconstruction which would have been added surgeries because, what the heck...they served their purpose as my children are grown. It escapes me to understand why women define themselves by the size of their breasts. Superficial satisfaction? Hopefully these women will never have to go through a life threatening illness that alters their physical appearance because who knows how they would survive.
