Divorce Parties

That was the sickest show you've ever had. It was a Male Basher's Special. Women also create the reasons for divorce not just men. That thing with the knives through it was the sickest thing I've ever seen. Is this the expectation of teenage women. Men and women need to know that marriage is for better, for worse and for keeps!

This is a perfect way to move on after divorce! If there are people out there that don't understand then it's because they haven't been in the situation. Women and their children need to know that it's important to move on from bad situations. They don't have to stay in abusive relationships.Thank you Rachel for such a great idea!

I feel this was a great segment. Any woman or man who goes through a divorce should be allowed to hold a wake after it is final. Many believe in celebrating the life of a loved one when they pass away. Why wouldn't a divorce be celebrated in the same way. It's a passing of a lifetime and a journey. I don't believe there is any woman or man that ever wishes to go through a divorce. It's humiliating, unreasonably costly and damaging to your self esteem. It's a death of your present life and future life as you once believed it to be. The grieving process must be allowed and eventually closure then the decision to move on and start again. To me the divorce party represents celebrating the good that occurred during the marriage, the closure of the marriage and the beginning of a new journey. I feel as do many in our society that new beginnings should always be celebrated, so why not divorces? Unfortunately they exist in our society, even if we don't ever plan to experience them.

If the divorce party segment featured a man having a celebration upon getting rid of his wife, many women would be outraged. I am a woman, but I was still offended. I see nothing wrong with having an uplifting get-together to start a new life, but to call it a divorce party, and to celebrate getting rid of a husband was in bad taste.

I agree with you completely.

If a bakery displayed a divorce cake showing a man kicking a woman down a flight of stairs....the bakery would be shut down by protestors claiming violence against women.
But it's OK to show (on national television) a cake depicting a woman kicking a man down a flight of stairs because is a way of "healing." I don't get it.
Would Rachel agree to have a man on the show with a knife rack with knives piercing a woman's figure? I don't see why that would be any different than yesterday's show.
The woman with the wedding ring coffin was the only one with any class. It was a symbolic, non-violent, way of closure.

You're absolutely right. A female knife rack would have put Rachael off the air. I can understand wanting to celebrate. But do it with taste. This was tasteless and I don't understand why a happilly married woman like Rachael tolerated such tasteless fair on her show.

Maybe all is not so well in Rach's little love nest afterall and there is some truth to what the tabloids are saying about her divorcing John.

Everything I have read indicates she is not a happily married woman. I agree with you all though. Totally tasteless show except for Chef Tom Colicchio. The only reason he could have possibly had to be on the show was to plug Top Chef.

i think it's funny how a stick figure knife rack dipicits any sex, it's a plastic gumby...i've always found laughter is good medicine, personally I think it's great, for any person going through a break up, modern day voodoo doll, or call it abstract art!

As far as Rachael Ray, it is vividly apparant to me at least (I hold a PhD in psychology) that hers is a strained marriage. My theory is that it has finally sunk in that she chose her spose particularly unwisely.

Regarding the divorce party. That is sick, perhaps even clinically so. This type of behavior should not be normalized by featuring it on a tv show.

it was not a male basher's special, it was a show about coping with a horrible situation. marriage is a choice, but unfortunately most of the time divorce isn't. while the knife humor wasn't the most tasteful, sometimes you need to go to drastic measures to find (or make) humor out of a horrible situation... because if you don't your mental and emotional health will be in danger.

Although the knife rack wasn't the greatest item, I did enjoy the show. I'm going thru the whole divorce mess now. We've been married five & a half years. I spent most of our married time alone because he was always "busy". I've been thru the hurt, anger, self doubt, no sleep, can't eat roller coaster. Now I'm waiting for the next step in the divorce process which seems like a forever process. I feel like my life will always be in limbo with waiting for a court date, waiting for the house to sell, waiting, waiting, waiting......the past 6 months have been hell & I'm sure the next 6 won't be pleasant. I also, WILL have a party when this is overwith. Good luck to all who have been thru divorce or going thru it now!!!
