Internet slander...

blu_eyes
I have been trying to figure out a way to stop an internet stalker myself. It all started when I broke up with my internet savvy, much older boyfriend. I was 22 and he was 44. He used my name as the URL and posted very private pictures and made up a whole story about me. I left him for the last time 2 years ago and he is still interupting my life with this site. I do not have the finances to retain a lawyer. When he first started with the site I called the police and they said that internet crimes were too new and there was nothing they could do to stop him. It has been 5 years and I am still unable to do anything about it. He has taken the site down for now but if he gets upset for any reason he puts it right back up. He still to this day sends me messages on my myspace and talks about how he wants me back. I am at a loss for what to do. I cannot afford to pay the $30 per item that reputaion defenders wants to remove the site. The worst part is my 8 year old daughter googled my name for a school project and was directed to the site. Luckily her father stopped her before she saw anything.

Hi blu-eyes!

I googled and just NOW found this posting because I am dealing with a similar problem and trying to clear my name. This person sends me emails, denies they are from him and creates fake accounts to harass me, but luckily hasn't created sites yet (that I've found) disparaging me.

I do know this and hopefully it will help you in your problem - if it isn't too late! If he has created a harassing/slanderous sites, more than likely it should fall under the hosting provider/domain name providers anti-harassment/anti-defamation policy. Additionally, if he is using a Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail or other free email service, you can report them via an abuse page the site should have.

If you have the web address, do a "Whois" search on the domain name in question (domain name is in the format: domainname.com or domainname.net or domainname.org etc, without trailing characters. This will get the host/domain providers contact information.

http://ws.arin.net/whois

Enter the domain name in question in that form at the top of the page and click "submit". This will bring you back the companies hosting the site and where the domain name was registered. You can contact them directly and they should suspend their account immediately for free.

Hope this helps you and anyone else and hang in there :) I know how it feels...
