Weight Watchers?

Starr_Bright
Do you think this is a good way to lose weight? I need to lose 30 pounds.

I have known many people who have lost weight on WW but they must stay on it for ever. I have finally learned that it's less food/more movement. I have lost 15 lbs just by walking/weight lifting and slightly reducing my portions. So much easier to do than counting points

I have to say WW teaches you just that! It is all about eating less and moving more exactly. I have done it before and started gaining back the 47 pounds i lost, then it hit me that i was eating more and more again. Now i am back to the moving more and less eating!!!!! WW is not really a diet but a BIG life lesson. Good learning to us all.

About 3 years ago I lose 60 and that was watching what I eat (no red meat, veggies sub and lots of salads). I did a lot of walking and workout when I can. I hate to say I had a misscarrage and then got off it and gain it back. So now I am starting all over. So keep tract of the fat and the amount cal. and work out.

I am actually a lifetime WW member. I joined after having gained 10 lbs. and needed help taking it off. It was really easy to follow. It took a few months to lose, but it came off. I went back after having both my kids and now all I have to do is go once a month to weigh in. It has been about 10yrs since I've joined and has really helped me stay on track.

I agree that WW is a great lesson rather than a diet. I use the basics of WW but I don't attend meetings. I have lost 20 pounds and have 15 to go. It's a great reminder when you are overeating!! Diane

WW didn't work for me. However, last year I gave up CocaCola and lost 30 pounds doing nothing but that.

WW worked for me, because the meetings are a huge motivator. No one wants to get to the meeting and have the scale tell you that you've not lost any pounds for the week or even worse, gained pounds. So knowing you are going to get weighed in front of others every week motivated me. I lost 60 pounds on WW five years ago and have kept it off.

I have lost 50 lbs on weight watchers - its an up and down battle but what I like about Weight Watchers is it is NOT at DIET it is a healthy way of life- I used to eat alot of processed foods and junk, tons of pop and since finding RR and WW I have done much better. I am not perfect and don't always make the best food choices- but I know that when I get to GOAL I will have all the tools necessary to keep the weight off! I say Yes!

Weight Watchers has worked great for me --- I lost 38 pounds and made my lifetime goal and then I got pregnant with baby #3 (It's taken me a little longer to loose this time)--but I am back at my lifetime weight. It is definately not a diet but a lifestyle change. You learn the 8 healthy steps to follow and are accountable for what you eat by writing it down each week.

I have been on Weight Watchers since the end of Feb. and lost 32 pounds so far. I don't think that is an extremely long time. I agree with everyone else who has posted and said it is not a diet. W.W. gives you the tools to make the life style changes to lose the weight and keep it off. It is common sense, eat healthy and exercise. I personally need the accountability that the meetings offer (weekly weigh in) and benefit from the support and comments of others at the meetings. You also get encouragement when you haven't been so successful and are feeling down. I also benefit from setting small goals. W.W. does this by setting your first goal for 10% of your weight. Good Luck!

I lost 85 pounds with weight Watchers. ZIt is not a diet, but a learning experience. Zi have kept the weight off for over 3 years and I would do it again, if I had to, but then again if I had to do it again, then it didn't teach me much. The secret is to attend the meetings and learn about your personal nutrition and eating plan. It also helps if you have a buddy to help you. Not everyone looses weight the same way, so learn to listen to your body and learn that activity is good for your overall healt too, not just loosing weight.
Good luck;)

Absolutly! First of all, Diets don't work! WW is not a so called diet but a way of eating and changing the way you eat! A chageing of bad habits! It comes off slow, but...the slower you take it off the healthier the weight loss is! Try WW! I know with hard work it WILL work for you! YES!! I said hard work! Its not as easy to take it off as it is to put it on! Plus, its way cheaper than NS or JC! You buy your own food at a grocery store!

I lost 15 pounds on WW. The first week is the hardest because you have to reevaluate everything you have ever eaten. It is really easy once you get going. I had a baby the year after I lost the weight, so I joined again. This time I had more to lose. I lost 20 pounds so far, but have another 10 to go. Once you get to the weight you want you learn how to maintain that weight. You can get more points, which will seem high compared to the lifestyle you have been living. It is really a lifestyle change and after a while you may not even need to calculate points because you know the point values of all your favorite foods.

WW is a great way to learn how to eat the correct portions of food. I have lost 35 lbs. with WW. Now I walk/run and do my elliptical for at least 30 minutes at a time. I try not to go more than two days in a row without excercise. I follow the plan when I realize that I have eaten to much junk food. Give WW a try, it makes you accountable for what you eat, and most of us need that to get going.

WW IS WORKING FOR ME RIGHT NOW. I HAVE BEEN ON THE PROGRAM FOR 4-WEEKS AND HAVE LOST 18.6LBS. THE MEETINGS DO MOTIVATE YOU, BUT I HAVE LEARNED IN JUST THIS SHORT TIME CUTTING BACK ON POP AND PORTION CONTROL REALLY HELPS. IT'S MAINLY JUST HAVING TO CHANGE WHAT YOU DO TO GET IT GOING.

Thank you all for the posts about this topic. I have been having a very hard time losing weight and have been curious about WW. I am 19 years old 5'6 and am about 70 lbs over weight. My boyfriend (who is in great shape) has been very supportive in my "journey" but nothing has helped. I have tried everything the pay as you go plans etc..Now it is nice to know that this program actually works I think I Might try it! :) -Bethany

My theory is that the reason WW works so well is that its basically a simplified version of calorie counting. Instead of "this is x calories, y grams of fat, and z grams of fiber", it tells you "this is x points". Plus it allows you to eat certain foods that are considered 0 points.

Seriously, when my dad was on it, he LIVED on the Zero Point Veggie Soup. It was actually 1 point a serving, since he added some 1 point peas, but it was filling.

Weight Watchers is a great tool in achieving optimal weight loss and health. I worked for them for 6 yrs. The key to weight loss is AWARENESS. Its not all about starving yourself, denying your favourite foods, its about being aware of your choices. Will you lose weight by eating just salads...Yes...will you be happy and satisfied...No...will you eventually gain back the weight...Yes..so why not eat the foods you love but in moderation. (of course you need to be sensible about those choices)You cant expect to lose weight by eating high fat/sugar foods. These foods need to be greatly reduced but not eliminated.

Writing down the foods you eat and measuring(every single thing)Our saying was "If you bite it..write it" this makes you more aware of what you put into your body. The weeks that you dont lose a pound you can go back to your journal and see...hmm..I did have take out 3 times...or I didnt measure 4 days this week...
Eventually you become familiar with portion sizes and wont need to use your measuring tools...however, it is a good idea every few months to make sure your portions havent grown.

Exercise is hugely important. I dont belive you need to join a gym or need to purchase home equipment. If you can walk at least 45 minutes a day at a good pace (enough to get your heart rate up)or go up and down stairs for 30-45 mins you will be burning calories. You have to burn what you put in in order to maintain/lose weight...

Dont let food be your enemy...experiment, try new flavours, recipes. What works for one person doesnt mean it will work for another. Everyones body metabolizes food differently. Discover what works best for you and stick to it.

Love food...

Cheers,
Darlene
