Relief starts through one small step at a time....

I heard on the show that she is using the sucking from the bottle to soothe herself back to sleep at night. I have two children and I remember getting ready to take away the bottles for good. I first cut a small "X" in the top of all of the nipples. It makes the sucking a lot less and therefore the liquid just flows out of the bottle. It removes the sensation that they are looking for to comfort them. In my eyes it is very similar to a child sucking their thumb, fingers or a pacifier. When Leah does make the final jump to taking away all bottles, I have found that what works well is putting all of the bottle pieces and parts (including the drying rack) completely out of sight. I did this while my children were either out of the house or asleep. Out of sight, out of mind does help the situation. Another trick I did was replacing the milk bottle with a nice warm sippy cup of chocolate milk. My daughters both helped me make it. Letting them help pour the chocolate and stir the treat helped keep their mind on something else for the moment along with making them feel like a big girl that doesn't need a bottle. These are a few little tricks that worked for me. A snack and some warm milk also helps to let them sleep longer - its a bonus!

My suggestion is to slowly ween her of the bottle. Allow an extra 30 minutes between bottle feeding at night for one week and then add 15 minutes each week there after. This has worked for me. During the day make her a full meal and give her a cup of milk with a straw. The straw will mimic the bottle without having her lye down. Having her eat all, or most, of her food will get her full. Once she gets use to eating more solid foods she won't drink as much during the day.

Weening a child from the bottle, your bed and other things are very difficult, I know I have been there. There were many night when I would but my children to bed without an bottle and ran out the room and shut the door behind me crying, because I wanted to give in so very badly. If it wasn't for the support of my husband, I don't think that I could have done it.

Hank in there it will get easier!!!!!
