I consider mysef a good driver. I don't get tickets, I don't have accidents, my kids feel their kids are safe with my driving. I'm 79 and drive all the Chicago expressways and anywhere else.Just renewed my license with a road test - passed with flying colors.I would feel like a prisoner if I didn't have my car.
BUT -- my worst nighmare would be to cause an accident where someone else got hurt, or God forbid, killed.
So, I test myself regularly like this: I count the times I do anything a little odd, or dangerous or confusing. I include the things that happenn to everyone occasionally, like realizing you're over the speed limit and correct it; or miss a stop sign obscured by leaves, or suddenly say "Where did that car come from?" At the beginning of each month I start a new count. It's easy and accurate to discover if one's driving skills are deteriorating by doing this.
