This is the most difficult transition for seniors who wish to remain independent and thrive in their community. Many can become homebound in a very short time after giving up their car if they don't have a plan.
I developed/administrated an alternative transportation for seniors 65+ and disabled. One of our local cities began funding this about 9 years ago and others have followed. It is mileage reimbursement for volunteer drivers and/or coupons for taxi's. This is an alternative to their car or public transit. We are in the Phoenix metropolitan area. I am aware of other states/cities who are addressing this, i.e. Riverside, Calif. and Maine.
I am willing to help local residents who would consider keeping their independence with these alternatives. I may also be able to connect others to programs in their cities/counties/states.

Please choose safety as your top priority when you travel. I have counseled many seniors 65+ in this area of their lives.
