New Laws in Texas.

berlyann
My father in law needs to have his license revoked. He still feels he can drive, but he has NO business behind the wheel. Last year, my husband, my brother-in-law, myself and his doctors turned him in to the dps. The Medical review board Aproved his license!!! I was sooo mad. He was absolutely glib about it. He actually framed the letter they sent him. He drove for about 2 months before he got sick again. We haven't had to fight this battle too much until recently when he brought it up again. I called the DPS again, and with the new laws in Texas, they were much more receptive to taking his license. The officer that I spoke to sent me a letter to update anyinformation that has changed and she said they would have him in for a driving test before he could drive. Praise GOD!! I have been trying to find information on how to help convience him to just give it up, but I can't find anything except sale his car, take away his keys, disable his car, etc. I don't want to be deceptive, but I want to be strong. He is opposed to having a driver or a service to drive him because it is "degrading" I realize that there are people who do mean things to the elderly, and I don't to be that way. I want to be supportive. I know that everything has been taken away from them and this is just one more thing to have to give up, but, there comes a time when we have to put our foot down. I am becoming angry and resentful about spending so much time on this subject. It is difficult for us to see him loosing his independance too, but there is nothing we can do about it. I wish there were a support group for those of us that are dealing with these sticky situations. I feel so alone in this.
