donating hair with follow up cut on a budget

traceyc
Hi Gretta -
I hope you might have a suggestion. I am a stay at home mom on an extremely limited budget. Since having my second child last fall I haven't been diligent about regular haircuts. While my hair has remained healthy, it has gotten quite long. I am thinking about donating the length. (I saw a segment with Hillary Swank on the show about donating to a project Pantene has going on.) My dilemma is I just moved from the South Shore in Mass. to Metrowest Boston and I don't have a hairstylist yet, and also with my budget, I may not be able anything more than Fantastic Sams and I'm leery about trusting a shorter cut to a low-cost chain salon. Do you have any suggestions on finding a stylist on a budget?

Hi, Donating your hair is such a wonderful thing to do for someone! Many salons offer programs where they will cut your hair for free if you are planning to donate it. You can use locksoflove.com as a resource. Also, you can visit your local hair school to achieve a "new" look by a stylist in training who makes it more affordable. (The instructor is typically present while they are administering the cut). And last, but certainly not least, most finer salons have an "apprentice" night and they are always in need of models. It's definitely worth inquiring at some local salons in your new area! xo, Gretta
