Just saw the piece on cheap 'knock-off' furniture. I thought it was totally irresponsible. There was no mention of either the quality of the materials used or the craftmanship involved in making the pieces. The pieces may be cheaper, but won't last as long- perhaps some furniture version of 'cost per wear'? Sure you can buy a cheaper version but what's the social impact (child labor, anyone?) or the environmental impact (unregulated manufacturing processes in developing countries, for example). Why not show a real Prada handbag and a 'knock-off' bought from a street vendor? Or perhaps official Rachel Ray merchandise and the cheap un-licensed version? Or perhaps pirated DVDs? All of these are, rightfully, considered illegal. Rachel is a creative person, just like musicians and furniture designers, who rightfully expects to receive the rewards (usually royalties) from her craft. Encouraging unlicensed copies of original furniture pieces is irresponsible and borderline illegal.
