i've just recently started straightening my hair. i'ts got natural curl to it, and the only way i can straighten it right is to use a very hot large curling iron and run it through my hair. it's breaking my hair off, and i just wandered if you had any tips for me. it breaks off everywhere. also, whats a really good treatment to use on your hair for repair? thank you

hey heidilouise!

I am a stylist and often have clients ask this question. There are several things you can do with product and with technique to get your hair back in good condition. I am a big believer in Aveda products. I use them everyday so they are what I know most about but you can look for similar products in other lines but I will say they HAVE to be professional products from a salon. Professional products are the proper ph for hair and that has alot to do with the health of the hair. First be sure you technique is correct. It may take a little more time but isn't it worth it? Look into getting a Chi flat iron or Fhi, again both brands I use daily and believe in. They get really hot and that's what you need to straighten and smooth stubborn hair. Section the hair and comb it before ironing. That helps to eliminate snagging, ie. braking the hair. Use a smoothing serum or a heat protectant also before ironing. Aveda products I suggest are... Brilliant damage control, Brilliant emollient,or Light Elements smoothing fluid. Products that I suggest in getting the hair back in shape and keeping it in shape are...almost any Aveda shampoos and conditioners. There are a few for damage and moisture. The Color Conserve strengthening treatment is amazing Finally, one of my favs is Aveda's beautifying oil. You can use this as a hot oil treatment for your hair, a styling product or use it anywhere you have dry skin. It may be more expensive and time consuming, but it really is best fo the hair! Hope I've helped you!

Aveda really are the best products, and they really arent that much more for the quality you recieve. Also make sure you have a ceramic iron it distributes heat more evenly and wont fry your hair.
