Secret Cash Stash

mtaplusone
As a SAHM my $ resources are a bit limited, so whenever exra cash comes my way, I tuck it away for whatever I'm saving for. I use the toes of my off season shoes and tampon boxes to secret away small bills. When I have a good collection of small bills, I trade them in at the bank for bigger bills and place the large bills under my dinner plates in the cabinets. I was able to pull off a huge suprise this fathers day by having enough to purchase my husband the much coveted Ipod Nano and he's still clueless about how I paid for it:)

How would he have reacted if you had used this stash to buy yourself $300 dollar shoes instead of something for him? Or how wouod you feel if he kept money from you?

This appalling lack of honesty frightens me.

I don't think it's an "appalling lack of honesty", I think it's a form of savings. It doesn't matter if she blows it on gifts for other people, or herself, what matters is that she saved $$ by tucking it away. If the need arises for her to use it for the entire family, like a bill or something, I'm sure it would have been grabbed and used. Ever heard of the expression "Out of site, Out of mind"? Maybe she tucked it away, and didn't tell her husband so that he wouldn't spend it on crap. If my family needs to save $$, it's what we have to do. My husband seriously doesn't know how much we actually have, and we are going to keep it that way. If he did know, it would be gone within a week.

I work very part-time (8 hrs/week), and that money is MINE. It's pretty much the only money I use to buy clothes, etc. for myself. Sometimes we are out and my husband will ask if I have any cash for something, and I usually say no, even if I do have some. I save my work $$ all summer so that when I go on an annual trip in October I have some shopping money that I don't have to answer for. If I had to ask my husband for permission every time I wanted to buy something, I'dhave to justify it and would usually be told that it's not a necessary purchase at the time.

So I see nothing wrong with what you are doing. And Kudos to you for spending that $$ on him--I would have bought myself a new pair of shoes!
