My kids went to a private school K - 8th grade, that provided no hot lunch except on a rare occasion. I became very creative with their lunches. Homemade soup was always a hit. I also would send leftover hotdishes or casseroles in the thermos. Just fill the thermos with boiling hot water let sit for 5 minutes, dump out the water, then add the hotdish. Hey I'm from Minnesota and we call them hotdishes here.... Wraps were good also. My kids loved turkey sandwiches on the Hawaiian bread rolls. I would roast a turkey breast with Italian seasonings, brushed with EVO. I also was very worried about our environment so I tried not to send baggies with them. I bought little bottles to put their juice or milk in it. So no boxes filling up the landfills. I had to do this for 3 children for 9 years after a while I was all burnt out. But when the kids started Public High School, after about a month of school lunches they couldn't stand the fatty meals, so I had to do it for 3 more years..... AAAHHHHH I could write a book about what I sent them. But they talk about their meals I made for them and they are now in college. One last thing I tried to send notes at least once a week to them. Telling them how proud I was of them, what a blessing they were to me, how honored and privileged I felt to be their Mom. I was told I never could have kids and God blessed me with three! I also would pack little Hershey Hugs and Kisses.
