Hey Sherry,
Come back when your 65 and hand over your license because your too old to drive. I definitely agree that if something is wrong with you and you are not capable of driving you need not be on the road. My mother is very ill and I was the one who took her license so I know the hard way what it takes to take OLD off the road. BUT 65 and healthy COME ON!!!!!! how old are you?

Sherry,

I think that you have mistaken these people that you think are 65 are actually over 80. 65 is very young these days, people work until this age even older. I do believe that when they reach 70 they should have to take a drivers test every year.

Sherry,

I believe that you have mistaken these 65 year olds for 80 year olds. 65 is very young these days and people actually work until this age or older. I believe that 70 and above should take a driving test every year. By the way I am not 65 in case you were wondering. I am only 31.

I don't think there should be a specific age to loose your lic, but I do think there should be a specific age to where you need to be evaluated every year to make sure you are able to continue to drive. My parents are 79 and 84, and my father can drive better than ninety nine percent of the drivers out there.

Hello all. Thought I would chime in here. I would still have my grandfather around if he had to go and get a driver's test after the age of 70 every year. If they can pass that test they should be allowed to drive as long as they do but, there does need to be something done about those of them that are having trouble seeing or reacting quickly to their surroundings.

Being that this is America, I am allowed to voice my opinion, and I am going to fully use that right, right now. I am only 22 but I do not believe that people at the age of 65 should hand over their drivers lic. I know many older people who are quite capable, maybe even more than some younger people I know, of handling a motor vehicle. I do however, understand that when people get older, their ablities begin to slow, everyone's will eventually. So then, instead of just saying, 'Hey! Give me your license!' give a test to determine if they are still able to handle their vehicle appropriately. Simple as that.

Those over 80 should be given a driving test to renew their drivers license. My father limited his driving after 80 to avoid highways and snowy roads. We picked him up in the winter and drove him when the distance was far. At 85, we needed to limit his driving to 5 miles. When possible, we have a neighbor take him to the city Senior Center and church. The city offers to pick up residents to take them to the Senior Center, church, store or doctor, however, some of their drivers refuse to drive in his driveway (the driveway is long, winding and hilly). He now drives under 3000 miles a year. He has not gotten in any accidents, so for now we just monitor and limit his driving, but we don't believe keys need to be taken away. I think it would be tough to take away the keys. I know people that are in their 90's that drive well, so age is not the only factor.
