Hey Rach!
I know you are the self-proclaimed queen of burgers but I think I may have one you might not have thought of. Using turkey is a healthy alternative to beef so this is a "no guilt" burger for me.
Mix a pound of turkey with a packet of dried french onion dip seasonings. Also grate some fresh onion (like you do!) into the turkey and mix.
Heat a griddle pan and a non-stick frying pan to medium high.
Slice one large white or vidalia onion.
Spray both of your pans with extra-virgin olive oil. (Those spray cans are the best invention since "chip clips"!)
Cook your burgers on your griddle pan while sauteing your onions in the frying pan. Add some salt and freshly cracked pepper.Grate a teaspoon of garlic into the onions. As the onions finish their caramelization, hit them with a tablespoon of worcestershire sauce just like you would for french onion soup.
Assemble the cooked burgers on foil in your oven or toaster oven and add the onions on top. Now here is where you can go crazy if you want! Top it with your favorite cheese or your traditional french onion soup cheeses...Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmigiana, whatever. I like to put a slice of low fat swiss. It packs a punch with very few calories.
Finally, broil until the cheeses just begin to melt and serve it on one of those fresh deli toasted wheat buns or a toasted garlic roll.
Garnish the burger with one or two slices of garlic pickles or jewish pickles. They are crunchy like chips but a lot healthier!
Hope you enjoyed my recipes because I enjoy all of yours! Especially the lo calorie ones.
Keep up the good work Rachael, your show has become very impressive, especially in such a short time.
Sincerely,
Lorraine from New Jersey
