Poll: An Alabama pastor preaches about sex in his sermons. Is this going too far?

ClubRRLiz
A pastor in rural Alabama is openly talking about sex in church, hoping to promote a healthy sex life within marriage and also encouraging congregants to talk to their kids about sex before they learn about it from TV. His controversial methods include provocative billboards and graphics on the church's website that say "Great Sex: God's Way." Is he going too far?

It's about time churches acknowledge that sex is a natural behavior and happens daily, even if parents or the general in public ignore or pretend as if it doesn't!!! Too many parents act like our children aren't sexual beings and avoid the subject of birth control or abstinence, because THEY are uncomfortable discussing it,resulting in unplanned and wanted pregnancies. Our primary jobs as parents are to teach and protect our children and we are doing them a grave diservice, by not broaching the subject of teenage sexual feelings and behavior. Teenagers are just not emotionally or financialy equipped to be parent. Children should not raise children. I work as a counselor with female inmates, in prison, and the numbers of babies raising babies is sad and unbelievble......or not raising them, because they are in incarcerated. I had my first child at 25 and was married and what I didn't know was more than I did know! I was nowhere ready to raise a child at 13 or 15 or even 18.

As one of very few Christian Sex Therapists in the country, we see the damage the church has done in sticking their head in the sand. The only message we hear is "No" or Don't", which makes it difficult for married couples to say "yes" without shame and guilt. The fact is the Lord is very positive about sex for married couples, celibacy is the only option for a single person, but it does not mean that they are not sexual beings. It is what helps us to be intimate with God and others. The Lord actually commands the "two to become one flesh" and to drink and embibe deeply as lovers. And the Song of Solomon (a book of the Bible) is very erotic and celebrates committed, marital love. So I say - God bless this pastor and the message he is preaching!! Janean Fuller

My husband and I attended a Christian church in Northeast Indiana and they had seminars for married couples in the church on better sex the way God intended it to be. These seminars saved my marriage. They helped us have a better marriage both emotionally and physically. I am so glad to hear that other churches are doing this and I hope it happens in more churches. Sex is beautiful in marriage and God intended for it to be that way.

What this pastor is doing is GREAT! I am an almost 40 year old woman who has been a christian almost all my life. I was raised by very loving and strong christian parents. I was always taught at home that God intended for married couples to have sex, that it was a good thing between a man and wife. I guess I was just blessed enough to also be in a small church where the same message was taught. Not that it was a regular Sunday sermon, but we were able to discuss with our youth leaders. So all I can say is, GO PASTOR!!!

Good for him. God created sex, nothing wrong with that. At least his congregation is getting the correct information in a Godly way. The teenagers are able to hear about the way God intended it and that sex is not dirty. It is meant to be enjoyed by a husband and wife in a loving marriage. Go pastor go. Good job and I can only pray others will follow your example.

I think that as long as the pastor talks about the difference between sex while you are married compared to just merely dating or things of that sort. Our children today need to realize that sex is not meant to be taken lightly. When having sex there are extreme consequences with it. Today there are many more disease and infections that are going around then there was a decade ago. Many parents believe that if their child has sex education at school then that is all that is needed. My parents never talked to me about sex, I learned from the sister and cousins on what can happen if you are not careful. Our children need to know all the facts from the parents. I know that some may not have all the answers but don't be afraid to tell them that you simply don't know. However, do not leave it at just that...go do some research and find the answer to their questions. They will appreciate the fact that you took time out of your day to find an answer to their questions. For more bonding, try researching it together. I know that I would like to know more from my parents rather than finding things out when I took my relatives to doctors.
