Poll: Activists angry about federal bailout protest at the homes of bonus-receiving executives. Is this going too far?

ClubRRLiz
Recently, activists protested at the homes of business executives who received bonuses while their company received billions of dollars in federal aid. Aside from shaming the employees for accepting the bonus money, they hope to pressure the company to return some of the bailout funds they received. Is this going too far?

What many of us don't remember, (or don't care to realize) is that AIG did not ASK for money from the government. And the employees that received a bonus were entitled to that bonus, per the employment contract they signed. AIG would have been sued had they not paid the bonus. Also, many insurance employees work on comission, much like your local waitress lives off his/her tips. How upset would we all be if we had to bail out the AIG employees when there house was forclosed on because they didn't get their paycheck?

I agree, with the previous post and not only that think about the families of the workers that live in these homes and have to deal with protestors coming to their homes and invading their private lives. I'm not a big fan of any protestor, but really take it to Washington not to the individual people that received the bonus.

I'd like to know how many of them would give back a bonus!

I don't know if I would go that far, but, having been a registered nurse since 1974 I can honestly say, no one has ever given me a bonus for a job well-done. I got a salary and it was just expected that I performed at an optimum level all the time. Why should anyone need a bonus to do their best? Especially at the executive level, one should be performing optimally or they shouldn' be in that position! Haven't they ever heard of taking pride in a job well done?

I agree because those bailout funds could of been better used in public schools that are struggling finacially. I understand that some people look forward to their bonuses but in this economy they just need to be grateful that they still have a job with so many people being out of work.

How to fix the economy!

You can bet this is never going to happen because it just might work.
Instead of throwing Billions away why not take a look at this simple plan.
This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspape r on Sunday.
The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

Dear Mr. President,

Patriotic retirement:
There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force;
pay them $1 million apiece severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs.
Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They buy NEW American cars.
Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage.
Housing Crisis fixed.

I agree with two previous posts.

Post #1 But the 40 million over 50 doesn't include those who have already lost their jobs from plant closures.

Post #3 You and a lot of other people.

The people living with the recipients might pressure into doing the right thing.

I disagree with #5. AIG didn't have to take it. If they didn't want the bailouts, why did they take more than one?
There are a lot of people who live off commissions and what about the one who live off tips because their wages only pay the taxes on minimum wage. Let us remember that a lot of these big bonuses were RETENTION bonuses. How can those who had already left the company be eligible for a retention bonus?! This is another example of POOR high level management.

When will they learn responsibility?!!

Sorry, I was going bottom to top with my numbering. I thought that the newest post goes on top. My #1 was actually the previous post.
