Rachael Ray: Rachael's Daytime Talkshow

A Fast-Food Diet

So disappointed in this segment!

This is really irresponsible television. Yes, it is possible to eat fast food and minimize your calorie intake by making better food choices. Sure, if you combine this decreased calorie intake with more exercise you will lose weight. But this segment made NO mention of the absolute LACK of nutrients in fast food! This guy is eating salads, so he gets maybe 3 or 4 servings of fruit and veggies a day, in theory. But most of that comes from lettuce which is mostly water without any significant nutrients at all! A diet like this is guaranteed to cause MAJOR nutrient deficiencies. So many people in this country are struggling to eat healthy...and a low-cal meal from McDonald's is NOT a healthy choice. It's okay once in a while but this segment makes it sound like this garbage is just fine to eat every day. Rachael, you should be ashamed!

I didn't really like this segment either. Eating McDonald's for every meal, even with choosing healthy options, is not good for one's body. At least he only did it for 30 days, but I could see him having a lot of health problems if he kept eating like this. The thing that the segment glossed over is how much exercise he was getting. He was not eating a high calorie diet, and he was exercising A LOT. So, of course he lost weight. It is amazing what people will try to do in order to lose weight.

I have to agree - they didn't check his cholesterol or blood pressure or anything like that. I am sure he could have made the same meals at home for less money and more healthy - and probably lost more weight!

"As far as Rachael should be ashamed." - She didn't do anything wrong. She probably the subject to light & even said in the show that they were not endorsing their viewers to go out and eat McDonald's every day at every meal.

If anyone ever payed attention you would know that he said this was an experiment for himself about eating the things HE liked and still being able to loose weight. And that yes it's fast food but the point was that you even if you live in this fast paced world of high traffic and fast food- there are "healthier" choices. He also stressed several times that you still have to exercise (as with any DIET). Wow, I have found that for the most part those that are so critical of others are the ones that are unhappy with their own situations. Before you start judging, give the guy some credit for attempting to do something that most of america is too lazy and unwilling to do, which is get up off their fat butts and do something about their lifestyle. No matter how silly you think its was at least he did it. And how bout you read his day to day blog which was clearly posted on this site to give you the background about him and the process.

I just thought it was an interesting counterpoint to the "documentary" SuperSize Me. In that one, he went out of his way to make unhealthy choices from the menu (he had to eat everything on the menu at least once, for example, and if they asked if he wanted to Super Size he always had to say yes). The overall result was exaggerated but they made it seem like the 30+ pounds he gained, and the severe liver damage etc., were inevitable consequences.

While I agree that eating at McDonald's every day is probably not a healthy thing to do for either guy, still it IS possible to choose BETTER choices for the few times a month that most people go to Mickey-D's.

For that matter, I don't think it was healthy for the lady who was eating on $1 a day. She only ate two meals and small ones at that, and you can't tell me she was eating her six servings of whole grains and five fruits and veggies, not to mention lean proteins etc., in those two small meals.

He was so specific to say he was just experimenting and I think we all need to realize that you can eat there and not eat the most fattening items. The whole key thing is EXERCISE. Before I am sure he was never exercising and now he is walking, has a trainer and everything - that is really why he is loosing weight!
