Hubby turning 50 (Surprise Over the HIll / Luau !! Ideas??

mardellef
Help -
I am in the process of coming up with the menu for a surprise party for my hubby who's turning 50!! I scored when the end of summer came and got all kinds of Luau stuff for next to nothing so I want to keep with that theme plus the over the hill stuff. I was thinking to stick with all finger foods and/or crock pot stuff. Any suggestions for simple and covert things I can make because all the cooking has to be done in one day or he'll figure it out !!! All suggestions are welcome! : - ) Thanks!! M

Hi! Since he's turning 50, maybe you can do a 50's theme party with burgers and milkshakes, they're quick and easy and will be great a finger foods if you serve sliders. You can have a buffet style topping and salad bar. It wil be quick, easy and cheap!
If you are looking for favors, check out http://www.ChocolateTreasureChest.com, everything can be personalized and most things are edible!

Thanks - Megan that's a great idea. I guess I'm fishing for things that will go along with the Luau theme already chosen.

I will however check out the website you suggested.

i really like the pirate theme suggestion. luau sounds fun, but it's cold. and what man doesn't want to feel like a kid on his birthday especially when it's 50. and a pirate theme birthday i think has alot more creative ideas for food and fun.
if it's for the grown ups you can make some exotic drinks and maybe use pear onions, a treasure trove birthday cake or treasure map theme. i bet if you look on rachels show website there are really cool ideas and recipes. everyone could wear a pirate theme party hats, a treasure box with all sorts of candy that your hubby likes. and play pirates of the caribbean movies after the party, if it not going to be too many people. i want to come to your party now. or serve some hot rum cider in in silver mugs. sounds yummo on a cold winter night/day. have fun.

Thank you so much Super
I scored on Luau decorations and all at the after summer sales that is how the Luau came up but your ideas are wonderful. Now It looks like the after party movie might have to be Blue Hawaii or something. :-)

I still am in desperate need of food ideas.

Thanks everyone!

You could still do sliders, but make them pork/pineapple. And, your "hill" for over the hill could be a volcano. You can make a big batch of mai tais and just keep filling up the punch bowl. Fruit kabobs would work too.

My then 23 year old daughter pulled off my 50th with a surprise Luah included recipes she asked me for that she said she needed for a baby shower she was having for a friend. She served Pulled pork smoked on the grill and then BBQ sauce added, Baked beans, Fresh fruit salad, and assortment of cheeses and vegi dip and vegis and vegi pizza made with crescent rolls. we had sand poured outside our garage and a small pool for the iced canned drinks and blender drinks . For her shower this past summer we reserrected the theme and did the pulled pork, smoked turkey, and a chicken salad made with grapes, curry, ginger, and a hint of pineapple juice in the mayo, Hawaiian rolls, spinach salad, fresh fruit salad with fresh pineapple, melons, papaya etc, spinach dip, a pepper and onion spread made from harry and davids relish and cream cheese a field green and strawberry salad with walnut flavored olive oil, glazed nuts strawberries and strawberry balsamic vinegar.W e also made a smoked sausage pasta salad that was so easy and amazingly good. A tropical punch and sangria and soft drinks, iced herbal and black tea. All of the food was made at home and are quick easy recipes. We included the ever popular crescent roll vegi pizza as finger foods. We had leis for the guests, the sand and pool as before and a back drop on the garage with a hawaiian picture on it. Tents overhead had lights running around the edge with a beach theme. What a hit!
