Regional Cooking

I was wondering, Rachael, if you had thought to do a regional cookbook from Upstate New York recipes? There are foods that I really miss, when I was a kid. One was from Hemstroughts Bakery called half moon cookies. I searched online and finally found an old recipe from Saviour Magazine. I really miss their donuts and crawlers too. Thank You!

I too am from Upstate NY and truly miss the foods especially from the Utica/Rome area. I have been searching for cookbooks from that area looking for the regional recipes so I could make them where I now live. I've since found the Chicken Riggies and Utica Greens. I do have to admit friends just brought me a dozen Hemstraught Half Moons last month. Was in my glory. The recipe you found for those cookies are great. Have made them a few times. I miss the State Fair Chicken BBQ Sauce. Sure would be great if she even did a show of NY regional foods.

That's such a great idea that you had about Rachael doing a show about Regional Cooking of Upstate New York. I did submit an old recipe that I found of my great aunt's for Eggs Benedict to Rachael's show. If they select the recipe or want to do a show about local Upstate Regional Cooking, I could be on the show doing the recipe with Rachael. How cool would that be!!!

I'm jealous of the Half Moons that you received. I still have to make that recipe, but really wanted to share it with other Upstaters like yourself. Thanks for responding! Keep in touch. Regionalisms don't go away in language. I love how Rachael says 'guys' a lot. I do the same where I work.
