cutting onions

Here is a tip for cutting onions. I have worked fast food in the past and love onions. I have learned thru the yrs, that if you cut the onions with your mouth shut, they have less effect making you tear. Taste buds and tear glands are connected somehow. Try this and see if it works for yourself.

I must be strange, but I've always cut onions with my mouth open. If I close it, that's when I tear up. But whatever works for you. I also make sure the onion is cold before cutting, guess the "juices" don't come out so easily.

Hi Sandy NH here. I worked on a turkey farm for years with a great group of people! I always took onion duty for the thousands of pounds of stuffing we sold. Sorry to tell you, keeping your mouth open may or may not work for you. I always found that a sharp knife and a quick hand got the job done. If you are not on camera , what's a few tears!

here is the solution to the cutting onions problem! Burn a candle next to you. It is the fumes from the onion that burn your eyes. If you light a candle, the fumes burn off and you dont ruin your make up :)

There must be several "must" ways to cut onions. I say keep trying each tip until ONE works for you. Everyone is different. So whatever works, go for it.

I usually cut onions while running them under water to prevent tearing. Works for me.

Yes, running them under water while cutting or even soaking them in water before cutting also helps

In my experience if you know your going to be using onions for your meal pop them into the freezer for about an hour or 45 minutes then cut them. It has worked for me in the past.

Some say to cut the onion with mouth open, some closed.

I've tried it both ways and I still tear up.

I guess I'll just have to live with it.
