Halloween!!

afern
Hi everyone, my fav holiday is coming up and instead of trick-or-treating we planning to host a halloween party for family kids ages 1-6 year olds. Any advise in costumes, food, decorating and game tips in a tight shoe-string budget??

you can have some kind of theme.i'm gonna use animals as an example.you can ask everyone coming to dress up like an animal and serve something like animal crackers for the kids and stuff that has an animal in it's name(like hotdogs).you can play pin the tail on the donkey,go fish, and other games with animals.hope this helps!

Making cupcakes with colored icing (preferably orange) is always cute and festive and from the dollar store you may be able to get little ghosts or some other small decoration for the top. It's cheaper to make your own cupcakes rather than buy them and they will taste alot better too, since you are on a tight budget ask the family to bring things too, after all the idea is to have a good time without breaking the bank, hope your party is fun!!!!

hey there, sounds like a great party.
when i worked at a fabric store, we took pieces of cheese cloth and dip in a mixture of cornstarch and water, squeeze out eccess mixture and make the shape of a ghost by draping over a glass, jar, or whatever you have around. after it's dry use marking pen to decorate (eyes, ect).
my mom took a powder free glove (medical type) filled with water, froze, break off the glove and float your icy hand in the punch.
but some of the best (and cheap) ideas i've seen are at
familyfun.com
enjoy your party!!!

another thing i just thought of...
when my kids were smaller... i got a pack of construction paper
folded the black sheets in half and traced thier hands on the paper, cut out hand tracing and cut off the thumbs. open up and you have a little spider....cut out some white circle and glue on spider for eyes and smaller circles for the black part of the eye. you can go goofy and change the expresstion by putting the smaller circles in diffent parts of the white (cross-eyed, looking to one side or the other, ect).
another thing i saw one barney was use the feet to paint ghosts,
use some of the left over construction paper , lightly dip feet (or paint bottoms of feet) with paint, step on the construction paper let dry and turn upside down cute little ghost!!!!!
use some light sticks or light up necklaces and bracelets and play hide and seek games!!!
sorry sisn't mean to run on but i love halloween AND saving money too!!!!
