In a mixing bowl with a hand mixer or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat together the cream cheese and butter on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, 2-3 minutes.
Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the confectioner’s sugar and cocoa powder until incorporated and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and beat until smooth.
