Christa was nervous to let her teen daughter date, so she came up with a plan: Suitors are required to leave a $50 deposit when they come to the house, and they only get it back if they return home with Christa "on time, safe and not upset."

Christa's daughter says her friends think it's "ridiculous" and not all the guys she goes out with have $50, but she sees where her mom is coming from and feels loved.

Relationship expert Dennie Hughes shares her thoughts with Christa. "I think it's great that you are so involved with your daughter's life, and more parents should be paying attention to who their children are going out with," she says. "But why are you putting all the responsibility on the guy to bring her back in one piece instead of letting her build up some kind of trust with you and putting the responsibility on her?"

When Christa explains that she puts the onus on the boy because he's the one driving, Dennie responds, "Just because he's driving doesn't mean he's in control! ... Let her show you how responsible she is and that she can control the date."

For example, a teen going on a date should have rules like calling from the destination and on the way home, as well as getting home promptly. "Give her dating rules with consequences," Dennie concludes, and Christa says she'll give it a shot.
