Sean Aiken can't hold a job for more than a week ... and he likes it that way! Like many college graduates, he was seeking direction and hesitated to jump into a job. "Coming out of college I was struggling with that decision -- what do I want to do with my life?" explains the 26-year-old. So he came up with a year-long strategy: he'd travel the country to test out 52 jobs in 52 weeks as a way to discover what kind of job he'd enjoy.
Now in week 47 of the journey, he's worked as a bungee instructor, a baker, an aquarium guide and a veterinary assistant and has been donating everything he earns to charity. What's the verdict? He's still deciding. "When I started the project I though that I was going to find that one perfect career," Sean says. "But I've realized over the course of the experience that what's going to make me happy at the end of 52 weeks is not necessarily the same as five years down the road."
But he does know what he'll be doing during week 53 when this comes to an end. "I'll be writing a book about my experience," he says. "Basically about making the transition from college into the 'big bad scary world' and all that I've learned along the way, and the advice that I've picked up from my employers about how they got to where they did in their careers, and advice for college grads." (In the meantime, you can get his advice for college grads in this backstage interview!)
When Sean comes by the Rachael Ray show, he gets a special backstage tour to see how a TV show (and this website) are produced. His favorite job on the show? "Without a doubt it was choosing the snack of the day!" he says.
