Have you ever tried a DIY project and realized you were in over your head? Christy and Pete tried to create a pass-through in their kitchen on their own, but after five months of living with a huge hole in their wall with exposed plumbing and plaster cracks, they admit that they need help. Kristan Cunningham comes to the rescue! She's undoing the damage and revealing DIY secrets you should know before you bite off what you can't chew. Watch the video above to see how Rach's DIY buddy comes to the rescue.

So how can you tell if a project is really best left to the professionals? "When there's electrical [wires], when there's plumbing, when there's gas and you don't know what's in a wire or a pipe," Kristan notes, while offering some encouragement to the inexperienced home improvement types. "Everything that I do I learned how to do based on need. Every time I needed to do a new project, that's when I learned it. So as long as your safety is not involved, go ahead. Try it!"

Kristan has tips for a project anyone can master -- turning two shelves into a dining room table. Click on the slideshow to see how it works. And, if you want more help ask Kristan on her message board!
