Scary costumes don't just appear at Halloween! When it comes to fashion accessories, there can be huge room for error if you don't know how to wear them. That's why Suze Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor-at-large for Glamour magazine, is here to help turn you into a fashion do!

The accessories you have in your closet may not be as out-of-style as you think. Reinvent these four fashion don'ts into modern high-style:

Headbands

Don't wear a neon headband or headscarf that covers your hairline.
Do make sure you break up a colorful headband by revealing a bit of your hairline first

Tights

Don't wear tights that show your toenail polish (ie sheer tights).

Do wear opaque tights with seams in the back for a fresh and modern look.

Don't buy printed tights with patterns; it looks juvenile.

Do wear bright-color tights with a skirt or dress that hits at the knee (you don't want the color to overwhelm by showing too much leg).

Scarves

Don't wrap your pashmina around your body like it's a coat.

Do fold the scarf in half, and loop through center and wear it with a jacket.

Now that you've revived some of your accessories, here are two items you can say "out with the old, and in with the new":

Don't: big glasses

If your sunglasses are larger than your bikini, it's time to toss them overboard! Suze's Glamour tip? "Glasses that take over half your face are big don'ts."

Do: over-sized necklaces

"Big accessories are back," Suze says. "They're perfect for a simple outfit as jewelry adds something to it."

Don't: monogram bags -- especially if they're from a secondary line. Suze recommends: "keep the label inside the bag."

Do: elasticized waist belts

"These belts are great with voluminous clothes because they suck you in at the waist, but stay on your hips," says Suze.
