Advice For Dr. Phil

Advice For Dr. Phil

He's used to giving advice to others, but when Dr. Phil stops by the studio, he's the one who receives a little help from Rachael - whether he wants it or not!

The Problem: Dr. Phil's Cooking

Dr. Phil's idea of a gourmet meal is throwing a meat patty in a skillet and surrounding it with canned green beans and creamed corn. And who needs a plate? Dr. Phil sits down with the skillet and a fork and dives right in. "You don't even have to dirty any dishes!" he claims, adding that he pulls off the meal in under 10 minutes!

The Solution: Rachael to the Rescue

"Dr. Rach" takes Phil into the kitchen for a little tough love. As is the case with most people with problems, Dr. Phil is in denial: "You are tryin' to fix what ain't broke!"

But with a little grill seasoning, some roasted red peppers, and a few slices of smoked mozzarella, Rachael spices up Dr. Phil's creation and shows him there's more to cooking than being able to operate a can opener.

Ongoing Treatment: A New Recipe

Dr. Phil's treatment continues when he helps cook a BBQ Chicken One-Pot Pie, designed especially for him by Rachael. His wife Robin joins him at the table to try his masterpiece, but there's one problem that just can't be cured - he still eats out of the skillet! Hey, Rachael's good but she's not a miracle worker! Rachael will leave that up to Robin who, in addition to being the expert chef of the McGraw house, is an author who shares her secrets to a healthy, meaningful life in her recent book, Inside My Heart: Choosing to Live with Passion and Purpose.

While taking a very quick break from her 14-city book tour, Robin McGraw spills the beans on what really goes down in the McGraw kitchen. Turns out that even his "one-pot wonder" is a bit of a stretch! "Phillip never cooks. Once in a while he'll throw something on the grill, but even then he forgets about it and one side always gets burned!" Robin says. But, she admits, he used to make their two boys "a mean grilled cheese," getting creative by cutting jagged edges or using a cookie cutter to make fun shapes. As for washing dishes? "Are you kidding?" Robin asks, adding that he does help set the table and is great at putting ice in their drinking glasses!
