Age-Appropriate Fashion
Peggy is a confident 50-year-old, but when it comes to picking out trendy clothes, she starts to question herself. "I do not feel like I dress my age," she says. "I ask myself, 'Should a woman my age be wearing this?" Rachael asks Patricia Wettig, the fashionable 50-something actress from Brothers and Sisters, to weigh in on the notion of age-appropriate clothing? "I do think some things become a little inappropriate," she says. "You sort of begin to feel it. There are certain things in my closet that now I put on and I'm like, eh, not quite. It's like you're trying too hard. It infantilizes you in some way."
Patricia shares how she's learned to look trendy at any age. "If I find something that's a little simpler to wear," she says, "the one thing I think that age doesn't make any different is you can pop it and make it more glamorous by the shoes you wear. You can wear boots, you can wear the best Manolo Blahniks, you can wear major spike heels if you want. You can wear jewelry and belts and bags -- there's no age thing on that."
Does Peggy think using shoes and other accessories will help her in her wardrobe selection? "I want the credit card now," she says, "I'm ready to go shopping!"
