Anti-Aging Breakthroughs?
Hollywood stars aren't the only ones to have the latest anti-aging techniques! Rachael asks plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn for a roundup of some of the best strategies for a more youthful appearance, as more than 12 million Americans undergo treatments from plastic surgeons every year.
Use technology to preview your results. Before you even decide to get work done, Dr. Youn suggests using new technology to make an informed decision. "What we have now are tools that we can use as plastic surgeons, but also people can use at home - even on the Internet - to morph their face and make it look like you've had work done," Dr. Youn explains. "It's not for everybody and that's why these programs are helpful."
Reinventing the face lift. "We used to think that people aged and what would happen is the skin would just loosen up. So we would do all these tightening procedures and people would end up looking like they were in a wind tunnel," Dr. Youn says. "Plastic surgery now looks at aging as more of a three-dimensional process. Our face actually deflates." He says the most powerful way to reverse that is a technique that uses human fat to puff up a face. "So you can take my butt and fill in my eyes?" Rachael asks. "Good to know it's good for something - I want to redistribute some of that!"
The cure for longer lashes? "Latisse is the only medically proven prescription-strength medication you can actually put on your eyelids," Dr. Youn says. "It's like eyeliner that will actually lengthen your eye lashes." It just received FDA approval, and is expected to cost $120 per month. The treatment is not permanent and is from the makers of Botox.
What other anti-aging breakthroughs are on the way? From a potential Botox competitor and a "gummy bear" breast implant, to a new form of liposuction, click on the video for all of Dr. Youn's updates!
