Baking with Deborah Norville

Baking with Deborah Norville

Deborah Norville, host of Inside Edition and busy mom of three, shares with Rachael her philosophy for coping with the stressful holiday season. "This is the time of the year when it really ramps up," she explains. "You have to get the Christmas cards out, you have to get the gifts shopped for and wrapped -- everybody's to-do list is really long. So I've decided in the last few years to go into Zen mode -- whatever happens happens and whatever doesn't happen, it's OK. I've stopped beating myself up. I'm grateful for whatever I'm able to get accomplished and I don't sweat it if it doesn't happen. Because I think the people in my life that I care about know that I'm there for them when it really matters and if I forget to get the Christmas card out to them, it's OK."

Deborah goes into more detail about her grateful attitude in her new best-selling book, Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You. "I had a hunch that my life went better when I focused on what was working as opposed to the long list of stuff that doesn't always go right," she says. "But I'm also enough of a cynic where I thought, 'It's better Deb because you want it to be better.' So I figured, put on the reporter's hat, do the research and see if there's anything to it. And that's what this book was the result of. I was so knocked out by the proof that when you write down your blessings your life is better -- you're more active, you have fewer headaches. It really is a science."

Gratitude also finds its way into one of the Norville family traditions -- watch Deborah and Rachael bake (yes, bake!) Gratitude Cakes.
