Baking with Trisha Yearwood
It's a rare day in Rachael's kitchen -- she's baking! While Rachael describes herself as "baking challenged," she's happy to mix batter and give it a try with Trisha Yearwood at her side. The Grammy-winning country star brings a recipe for German Chocolate Cake with Coconut Frosting that her husband Garth Brooks loves. "This is what I make every year for Garth for his birthday," she says. "It's his favorite cake and now it's become some of my friends' favorites so I make it a lot."
Rach gets a bit insecure as they start to prepare the ingredients, but Trisha assures her that if the cake's not perfect, it's OK. "I've made this cake and it completely fell into pieces," she explains. "I frosted it anyway, it was a big clump and we ate it and it tasted great."
The recipe is just one of Trisha's personal favorites included in her first cookbook Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen: Recipes from My Family to Yours, which was a family project. "These are recipes mostly that my sister and I grew up on that mom cooked, and my grandmother's recipes. A lot of them weren't written down," she says. "The big exotic spices in this cookbook are salt and pepper."
