After a long day of work, the last thing Bear Grylls would even think about doing is sharing some of the highlights with his wife. The Man vs. Wild host, who drinks liquid from fish eyes and consumes his own urine to display survival skills on his Discovery Channel series, admits, "I just get home and I don't tell my family a huge amount ... If I told her that sort of stuff I'd never be allowed back in the home, let alone the bed!"

Bear has been pulling stunts since he was an adventurous 5-year-old, and now puts himself in outlandish situations to teach folks a lesson. "The point is that in a survival situation you need to leave your prejudices behind," he says. "The show is really about showing people how to survive if your life is on the line."

But not everyone will need to go to complete extremes to survive a night in the wilderness; there are probably life-saving items right in your purse! For example, he explains that the edge of a credit card can double as a knife to cut food, a tampon can be used as kindling to start a fire, and lingerie could be the key to clean drinking water. "Just a simple thing like a bra you can use to filter water. I use a sock a lot of the time or a T-shirt," Bear tells Rachael. Just fill the cup with water, drain the liquid through, and drink. "That's a lot better than my sock ends up tasting!"
