Concierge Secrets
Did you ever wish you had the inside scoop on the how to get the best table for dinner, the key to the best suite in the hotel, or the best seat on the airplane? Michael Fazio, a former Hollywood personal assistant and hotel concierge, shares his top three tips to help get you the A-list treatment!
Hotels: Michael suggests not checking into the room right away, but rather waiting until 4 or 5 o’clock, because hotels don’t get their room inventory back until then and are likely to give you whatever is available, which might not be the best rooms. He also explains that if you arrive early, you can make friends with one of the people at the front desk: “Be really upfront and say, ‘I am going to be totally fine waiting all day until the room is ready, but would you just make it an upgrade to a suite?’ And you know what? It happens!”
Flights: “First class goes faster than you can imagine,“ Michael says. “I use this site called SeatGuru. You put your flight in and it gives you the configuration of the actual aircraft that’s flying. This allows you to check which seats have the most leg room, which seats recline, which seats are exit rows, etc.”
Restaurants: When it comes to the best restaurants, Michael says, “Everyone wants to be there, but you have to know where those places are first of all, and you have to have really good social intelligence.” Michael suggests the website ChefDB to find out who is at the restaurant: the name of the chef and the kitchen staff.
