Patty Hughes returns with more great fashion advice for curvy girls -- and just in time for all those holiday parties! Think you can't pull off those trends you've been seeing on the runways? Think again! Patty's got great tips on how to make your wardrobe festive but has one note of caution:
"It's great to be creative and step outside of the box when dressing for the holidays but the curvy girl has to remember not to overdo it. You are not the Christmas tree!"
One great look is the quintessential "little black dress" by Betsey Johnson. It's is perfect for the curvy girl: It has a flattering square neckline and long sleeves that keep arms covered. The empire waist gives the illusion of a tiny middle. The important thing about this dress is that it should flow. Velvet may cling too much if you have extra assets so try on, try on, try on! Finish it off with a fun pair of patterned hose and black pumps.
When you are wearing separates, make sure the darker color is on the bottom -- it's slenderizing. Make a statement with a gold wrap top; gold is a huge color for the holiday and a wrap top is a great choice for the curvy girl. On the bottom, try some palazzo pants (Adrianna Papell's pants are available at Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom; they're cut fuller and add great drama -- it's not clear if they're a skirt or pants. The best part is they're comfortable, and comfort is key! Accessorize with a long chain necklace to elongate the line.
Red is also a hot color for holidays. Grecian style and gold embellishments are all over the runway this season and this Adrianna Papell dress (also available at [Lord & Taylor][3] and [Nordstrom][4]) is a great example of both. It flows on the bottom, which is great for the curvy girl. If you're worried about going strapless, try a faux fur wrap to cover the arms in style. Now you can go strapless without being self-conscious!
Curvy girls can wear shorts! They must be black; otherwise you'll look like you're going to the beach. They should also fit well, they can't be too baggy. Over the shorts, try a sequin top (Adrianna Papell's top is available at Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom. Make sure the top has small sequins all over it, not just in patches which will make you look bigger. Sheer hose and patent leather pumps complete the look.
