If you’re getting married this summer, find out how you can conquer that registry with tips from wedding planner David Tutera, whose first tip is, "Don't get overwhelmed." He suggests that you register at two stores of varying price points that offer online purchases for your out-of-town friends or family. Then get your fiancé and have fun choosing items to build a new home that fits your lifestyle. "This is the beginning of your life together!"

Dishes
• Register for 13 place settings, instead of the conventional 12 sets. "Someone's going to break something," David says. "You'll want to have an extra setting!"
• Colorful stoneware is a good alternative to china if you are more casual and want dishes that are less fragile, but if you get the china, David encourages you to enjoy it year round. "Find patterns that you can do multiple uses with. I always beg people [to] take the china out for breakfast."

Glasses
• While you're choosing wine glasses, don't forget about the rest of the bar. Consider a variety of high-ball, martini and other glasses for when you entertain.

Flatware
• "If you want to do the fantasy gift and go for something a little bit more expensive, then do the real silver. That's fine, because multiple people can pitch in to that registry item, but don't think that that has to be what you use. For me? I love having different patterns on not just china, but also the flatware. So you can mix it up!" David explains. "Think of the flatware almost as jewelry, as an accessory to your china, and it adds personality."
