Cindy Crawford's Decorating Tips
Supermodel and mom Cindy Crawford tells Rachael how she got involved with design, and what her partnership with JCPenney allows her to do. "I always loved creating my own environment, my own sanctuary, which is what your home should be," she explains. "With JCPenney, they gave me the opportunity to do bedding and table tops, throws, accent pillows ... those are the little touches that bring a room to life and help you express your own style." Check out a few of Cindy's tips for sprucing up your home without spending a fortune.
• Windows
"This is one of the places that people really forget," Cindy tells Rachael. "Windows are the eyes to your house so you need to take care of them." She dresses windows with simple panels on each side. "I find that it looks more luxurious to let the curtains pool at the bottom like you would a trouser," Cindy notes.
• Beds
If you're having company over and want to dress up your guest room, or add a nice touch to your bedroom for a romantic night, Cindy suggests inexpensive accents like a tray with flowers, decorative pillows and a throw blanket draped over the corner of the bed.
• Walls
A lot of people run into a stumbling block when it comes to decorating their bare walls. "Sometimes art is tricky," Cindy says, "because it's so subjective: 'Do I like it, do I not like it?' But mirrors are a great way to add light to a room because they're reflective, and they're also a good way to add dimension."
