Designer Libby Langdon is known for taking small spaces and turning them into fabulous masterpieces, but what will she do when faced with a makeover where she can't paint or nail things to the walls? Such are the rules with her 18-year-old stepdaughter's tiny freshman dorm room, but using a few inexpensive tricks, Libby is able to turn the cramped space into the coolest room on campus.

Floors. Libby suggests using felt floor tiles that don't actually stick to the floor, so whenever you need to pull them up you can. "No damage done!" she declares.

Draperies. If you can't drill into your walls but you still want drapes, Libby says that a great option is using small hooks with adhesive upon which you can hang a drapery rod. "You just put the drapery rod right over the existing drapes and it's going to add great color," Libby adds. "When you want to take the hook down, you pull the adhesive and it completely releases and it doesn't leave a single mark on your wall."

Tabletops. "You can freshen up a tabletop by putting down wall paper, wrapping paper or place mats and then you put a piece of plexiglass on top so you can protect it," Libby suggets. "It's going to really spice up the look of your space."

Mirrors. "Mirrors are a great tool in any small space," Libby explains. "Visually, they're going to open it up and make it look a lot bigger."

Storage. For two girls sharing one small space, everything's got to serve more than one function. Libby uses little rolling carts for their hair and makeup products that will double as a towel rack. She also utilizes storage pieces from IKEA such as dressers that can double as night stands. "They're going to have a place for everything," Libby says. In addition, she places bed lifts under the beds to raise them up in order to fit some of the bigger bins underneath.

Watch the video above for some of Libby's wall decorating tips - especially when you're not allowed to paint!
