Elizabeth Hurley & Evelyn Lauder's Breast Cancer Campaign

Elizabeth Hurley & Evelyn Lauder's Breast Cancer Campaign
Aired on: October 16, 2009

When Elizabeth Hurley became one of the faces of Estée Lauder 15 years ago, the model-actress had a very personal reason for joining their campaign to fight breast cancer. "My grandmother died of breast cancer in the early 90s," she explains, while praising Evelyn Lauder's work. "Her research foundation, which she started, has to date raised more than $252 million - that's a quarter of a billion dollars for breast cancer research!"

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has also helped ignite an international movement to fight the disease, partly through the ubiquitous pink ribbon for October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which Evelyn helped design and counts as a particular achievement. "Everybody knows it today!"

This month, major landmarks are joining the cause with Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa, JFK airport and other classic structures illuminated in pink. And, Estée Lauder's 15 brands are offering special fund-raising products for the month. While Evelyn works to spread awareness on a global level, Elizabeth, who is now 44, says her boss and close friend has not forgotten about the simple precaution all women are encouraged to take: "Evelyn gave me a mammogram for my 40th birthday!"
