Emilio Estefan
Music producer Emilio Estefan helped make Shakira and Ricki Martin household names, a dream he believed in despite the naysayers. "When I produced my own first conga [record], I went to the record label and they almost threw me out of the window! [They] said, 'Oh that will never happen,' and then it became number one!" Emilio recalls. He's been proving them wrong ever since, including his decision to produce Shakira's first English-language album when she didn't even speak English yet! After hiring her a tutor and getting her into the studio, he says, "The album sold almost 20 million!"
Nineteen Grammy® awards later, he tells these stories in his new book The Rhythm of Success: How an Immigrant Produced His Own American Dream to inspire other entrepreneurs no matter their background. Emilio says his own success is even sweeter because it's shared with his wife of 32 years and their two children. "Me and Gloria, when we started we was very poor. You really enjoy life when you come all the way from the bottom," he says. "We're happy; we're blessed; We live in the best country in the world!"
