Reduce the clutter in your kitchen by putting away all those fancy gadgets. Who needs 'em? Check out Rachael's list of must-have kitchen tools.
One of Rachael's favorite kitchen items is a spoonula -- a combination rubber spatula and spoon.
"They have a little bit of a spoon factor to them so you can scoop stuff with them, they're heat safe so you can put them in hot pots and pans without them melting, and it's a spatula so you can scrape down the sides of stuff."
This microplane grater looks just like the rasp in the garage, only this one zests!
"It does not only a terrific job with cheese, but also with nutmeg and fresh ginger root. (And if you keep your ginger root in the freezer, it'll last forever!)"
A flat-edge wooden spatula is a must.
"Now I love all types of sauces, but one of my favorites is Bolognese. This kitchen tool works great to break up any ground meat in a pan so it cooks up in little pieces and not as one big hunk."
Lazy spoons and ladles rest on the side of your pot.
"No spoon rest required here. This spoon rests right on the side of the pot. How cool is that!"
No need to bake to use a bench scrape.
"When I chop up a ton of stuff on my counter and want to get it over to the pot, I use the bench scrape as a scooper and a dropper. It's a scooper/dropper. Can't live without it!"
Rachael finds tongs especially useful.
"You can never have too many of these. And if they're jamming up your drawer, just hang them on the handle of your oven. I don't get the fancy shmancy ones; I just get the regular restaurant ones."
What's a 'moppine?'
"A moppine is a made-up word. It's an Italian-American word for a large dish towel. In my family, we tuck it into our belt and make it an apron that you wipe your hands on, it's good for doing the dishes, and it's like a set of mitts for getting a hot pan on and off the stove."
