Meet a man who is using food to transform the lives of thousands of people in upstate New York by giving them a second chance. "No one wants to be there unemployed and addicted," Father Peter Young explains. "They want to get their life together and they want to find out how to do it." The Albany-based parish priest is founder of the Peter Young Housing, Industries & Treatment Center. "When you're working in addiction you have to recreate that that they've lost. You have to rebuild the family, rebuild the location where they can live and begin with a job and a paycheck," he explains. Those jobs are becoming available, in part, thanks to his partnership with the Schuyler Inn Culinary Arts & Training Program, and he is proud of what the participants are achieving. "They've gone on to culinary schools all over the country. They've been very successful, and we often try to get them to go and to prove that they then can open the door for others — each one teach one!"
